Merry Christmas or I'll Boycott You

What says "Happy Holidays, Peace on Earth and Good Will Towards Man" better than some nasty threats and an organized boycott? This year, instead of preaching tolerance, charity and brotherhood, many Religious Right groups are instead organizing boycotts against retailers who have the audacity to promote "Holiday" sales instead of "Christmas" sales...instead of gathering together to help the needy and relieve suffering, their energy is going into punishing retailers for the horrible crime of saying "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas."

And what are these retailers doing to fight back, to show that they will not be bullied, to show that they respect all religions, races and ethnicities? Nothing. Instead, they have capitulated by changing signs and displays, by marching in lock-step with their detractors, and doing whatever they must to make the sale.

So, at time when our energies should be going towards those less fortunate than ourselves, our thoughts to our soldiers who are in harm's way in a needless war in Iraq, and to the victims of Hurricane Katrina who still have not seen the relief promised by the Federal Government, we are instead focused on appeasing a biased and fanatical audience concerned only with promoting their narrow intolerant agenda.
