Who Needs The Constitution When We Have Dick Cheney
May 15, 2006

blackphone.jpgSecretly collecting millions of telephone phone calls, NSA Surveillance, and now troops on the border….do they actually think that the American public is stupid? After years of claiming “national security” as an excuse to do anything they want…to violate the Constitution, to ignore all civil liberties…it looks like people are getting wise to their deception. With all the other lies, do they expect the American people to actually believe that snooping on phone calls is about national security…that this is about catching terrorists…or is this about their fanatical grab for power and their Nixonian (or worse) desire to destroy their opponents? ABC News claims to have uncovered the real reason for the telephone call grab…to go after any reporter or person who doesn’t agree with them…to “swift-boat” or destroy anyone who has the audacity to demand the truth and expose their charade.

It may be a little alarmist to say that all that stands between us and the destruction of the Constitution are a few brave Republican Senators…but, right now, without control of either the House or the Senate, the Democrats are powerless to do anything about this…so, if not for Republican members of the Senate like Arlen Specter and Chuck Hagel, this Administration would go totally unchecked. If there was ever an argument for making sure that the Democrats take back at least one body of the Congress, this is it. If not, Cheney and his crew will be allowed to act without any oversight, without any accountability and without any regard for the rights of Americans. To them, their agenda must be successful at all cost…even if it means bringing down what makes us great with them.

This is a very scary time to be an American.

As Bill Maher noted, "On Mother's Day the most phone calls are made, or as the NSA puts it: Busy season!"

Alberto Gonzales, "We would have gone to Congress for permission to wire tap, but we knew Congess would not aprove."
