Kean-Menendez Race May Determine Who Controls the US Senate...A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words
October 30, 2006

With a week remaining before the mid-term elections, the control of the U.S. Senate may hinge on the results of the Kean-Menendez race in New Jersey. As you can guess, I have a great deal of thoughts on why Menendez should be reelected...not the least is the over the top negative and dishonest campaign being run by his opponent, Kean Jr. But, the biggest problem of all revolves around competence...plain and simple, Kean is just not qualified...he is not ready to be a U.S. Senator...and, based on his recent performance, I'm not sure he is even ready to be a State Senator. It isn't enough to just be negative about your opponent...you need to articulate what you stand for and why people should vote for you. Kean has spent little to no time stating his positions. Maybe, as this video shows, it is because he has none. Even on a pivotal issue like the war in Iraq, he refuses to express an opinion. A profile in courage or intelligence, he is not...but, as they say, a picture (or in this case, a video) is worth a thousand words.

Surely this is a joke. Is this the best the GOP can come up with in New Jersey? An inarticulate, mealy-mouthed weasel terrified to go off-script? To not articulate a position on the debacle in Iraq is one thing, but this guy looks like a bad SNL caricature.

Give me a politico who can offend, agitate and shoot from the hip. Does the GOP think the American public can be fooled by an insect like this?

On a brighter note, I was glad to see Kerry take some spirited potshots at Bush today. If only we'd seen that kind of charisma when he ran. Too late, John. You should've come out with both barrels blazing when you had the chance. Note to White House hopefuls: kick your handlers to the curb for once. We can spot a phony a mile away.

Hi Michael,

This last week before the election is a real nail biter all over America, including New Jersey. Stupid comments from Kerry don't help and remind me of why he failed in '04. Here's an article from the Guardian Newspaper in the UK to show that it's not over yet. Remind everyone to vote!!!

The world can only watch and wait on the outcome, but the final days of America's 2006 congressional election are definitely not for the squeamish. With less than a week of the midterm campaign still to run, George Bush's Republican party is still staring at big losses in both houses of Congress. This week's two latest national polls, for CNN and NBC, continue to show commanding Democratic leads. But the Republicans are traditionally strong finishers. Their response was well summed up by an anonymous senior party official quoted in the New York Times yesterday: "Whatever they feel they've got to do to move their numbers, they have got to do." The message could hardly be clearer. From now until the polls close next Tuesday evening, the Republicans will do whatever it takes.
